Time Out Says

If you’re looking to treat yourself to a wonderful meal in luxurious surroundings, this restaurant at Jumeirah Al Naseem at Madinat Jumeirah is the best in town, and it won’t break the bank, either.

Picking up Restaurant of the Year, and Best Italian, two years running at the Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro is set on the picturesque banks of the hotel’s Turtle Lagoon. The charming surroundings make it a delightful place to enjoy a meal – by day
or night.

The split-level outdoor area is where you want to secure a table in cooler weather, although the classic, simple indoor area is also a lovely place to sit. By night, sharp white cloths adorn the tables, while by day there’s a more casual, rustic look, with bare wood and heaps of natural light.

Olive trees are the centrepieces, reminding diners of the restaurant’s Tuscan roots (which is where lots of the ingredients are sourced from).
Gentle Italian music plays out over the dining area, and despite the restaurant being packed most of the time, the service is attentive, personal and dishes are served with a smile.

The food isn’t eye-wateringly expensive either, which makes Il Borro all the more worthy of its accolades, with starters kicking off from Dhs50 and delicious pasta dishes at around Dhs80 to Dhs100.

Don’t miss the aubergine Parmigiana, full of gooey mozzarella cheese and bursting with flavour. Equally delicately prepared is the tortelli con zucca e tartufo (homemade pumpkin tortelli with Umbrian black winter truffle). It’s a hit – the pasta is light, doesn’t disintegrate upon contact with a fork and is absolutely delicious.

Meanwhile the bresaola di chianina offers an authentic, tasty and utterly moreish pizza for little over Dhs80.

Of course, if you want to go big and really treat yourself, there are pricier options, but for expertly cooked food at a reasonable price point, there are few better places for any cuisine anywhere in the city.
