Jamie’s Pizzeria

Guess who’s back… But is it worth telling a friend?

Time Out Says

Dubai hasn’t been a great city for Jamie Oliver’s empire. The UK TV chef previously operated Jamie’s Italians in the city, but both had long since shuttered their doors before branding begin appearing for a Jamie’s Pizzeria. As a result of its unusual location (facing Sheikh Zayed Road on JLT’s ring road) and Oliver’s limited success in the market previously, Dubaians were sceptical it would actually belong to the school dinner-slating Naked Chef.

But here it is. And so it does.

Unlike Oliver’s previous two openings in the city, Jamie’s Pizzeria is unlicensed – but that hasn’t stopped a steady stream of office workers from claiming the JLT spot as their latest lunch location.

And while pizza might seem a bit heavy for the middle of the day, it doesn’t need to be – the restaurant offers the option of a half-sized pizza with a side salad too, albeit for the same price as a full one.

The space itself is bright and airy, and well suited to those dining with kids.

There’s a pizza-making counter, white-brick walls with paintings of Dubai and plenty of natural light streaming in through the windows. So far, so smart.

We opt for the “ultimate garlic bread” to start. It’s a bold claim, and it’s exactly that – almost a heavyweight competitor in a citywide arena of garlic breads. It’s dense and packs a knockout punch of the powerful allium.

But we’re ready to go another round, and it’s onward to pizzas.

We opt for the Carne, with wholegrain crust. It’s thin and crispy, though we find ourselves yearning for a bit more meat. The Pesce fares better, with lemony rocket and fat, juicy prawns.

It’s all good enough, just not quite at the level you might head here expecting from a restaurant backed by a famed chef. You’ll find pizzas just as good (and half the price) nearby.

The bill (for two)
1x ultimate garlic bread Dhs19
1x mushroom fritti Dhs34
1x The Carne Dhs69
1x Pesce Dhs74
1x large water Dhs22
Total (incl service) Dhs218

The bottom line
A not-quite-triumphant return for the chef.
