jones the grocer, Emirates Golf Club
Time Out Says
Set in the space that formerly held Spike Bar, the new jones the grocer boasts a deli counter, open kitchen and a light, airy dining room. There’s also a large terrace outside, and that’s where we choose to sit.
The breakfast menu is lengthy and is served until 4pm on weekends, making it the perfect location for a lazy catch up, especially if you can’t bring yourself to rise pre-noon.
First up, we opt for the Portobello and oyster mushrooms on toast. Huge, meaty slices of mushroom come with a drizzle of fresh pesto, atop toasted sourdough smeared with labneh. It’s a hearty dish with a good kick of garlic, though the toast could be crispier.
We also try the grilled sweet potato and smashed avocado (because what’s breakfast without avocado?). It comes with chunks of feta, chilli, lime and two poached eggs. The textures really work, with the smooth potato a great substitute for bread, pairing well with creamy avocado. The flavours confuse our senses slightly, with the sweetness of the potato, the sharpness of the feta and the richness of the poached egg clashing, though in a good way, we think.
Finally we can’t resist a serving of the apple and chia bircher. It’s rich, creamy and has a pleasantly spicy warmth from a decent pinch of cinnamon. It’s a massive portion so is good value, too.
With a chilled-out vibe and some tasty and interesting dishes on the menu, this newest jones is worth a visit, especially on a lazy weekend.
