Kaak ya Kaak

Fantastic crusty bread makes restaurant worth a visit

Time Out Says

‘Kaak’, in Arabic, means ‘cake’, or savoury bread topped with sesame seeds. Said bread is served by street vendors in Lebanon, and is also the speciality dish of Kaak ya Kaak, an innocuous restaurant near Oasis Centre on Sheikh Zayed. Get here late and you’ll find the place filled with Lebanese businessmen talking business, puffing on shisha and chowing down on kaak. We recommend the akawi (white cheese) kaak and grilled chicken kaak, as well as a bowl of sujok; delightfully spicy lamb sausages bathed in a tart, vinegary sauce. The ingredients of the Arabic chicken concoction – chicken, pickles and tomato – are essentially the same as a chicken shawarma, but this offering tastes all the more hearty thanks to the wholesome bread. Anyone in the area (late at night) would do well to pay a visit.
