Time Out Says
This tiny, comfortable restaurant in a converted villa feels homely and welcoming, like you’ve been invited to dine in your host’s living room with views out to the front garden and cute water feature. Yet it still manages to have a kind of regal and aspirational feel, owing to the red, cosy, high-backed chairs and large dark wood dining tables. The theme of the kaftan runs throughout, with the colourful garment framed and hung on the walls and artist impressions of it decorating the space. Even the Turkish is coffee served in a tiny tray in the shape of a kaftan. Aside from the quirky decor, the food is really quite good. The iskender kebab is the highlight, tender strips of grilled lamb in sharp, tart tomato sauce with a dollop of yoghurt is a comforting dish. Staff are also attentive and although the space is small, manage to keep themselves scare as not to be intrusive. This is the kind of place that families and friends come to. For an eating out experience that feels like a home away from home in a quaint and quirky setting, Kaftan really is the place to visit.
