Khao Siam 45

A cosy Thai spot in Business Bay

Time Out Says

It can be difficult to find good-value, tasty Thai food in Dubai. Sure, there are the big hitters but with those prime locations comes pricey food. On the budget end of the scale you have a few chains as well as (Time Out Dubai award-winning) Café Isan in JLT, but in the Downtown Dubai area, the pickings are slim.

Enter Khao Siam 45, a tiny, unlicensed spot overlooking The Dubai Canal in Business Bay. There are a handful of seats inside and a few tables outdoors, making this a fairly cosy venue.

The menu’s pretty compact and all dishes come in under Dhs50. Choices include salads, curries, soups, and noodle and rice dishes. Of course, there’s mango sticky rice for dessert, too.

We try the satay to start and it’s super. The chicken is tender and the dip is wonderfully peanutty. Som tam salad is another strong starter, the papaya and dried shrimp salad hitting all of the sweet, salty, citrussy and fiery notes you’d hope for.

Mains of khao pad gai (fried rice with chicken and egg) and pad Thai are also excellent. Portions are hefty, too, so you won’t be leaving hungry.

Anyone who loves Thai food but finds the prices a little steep in most licensed places will find plenty to like here.
