Set in Al Barsha Mall, one of the quieter shopping centres in Dubai, is this gem of a cafe. It’s a small, but perfectly formed space, brightened up by colourful patterned cushions and seats, giving it a quirky look. It’s definitely worth coming here for breakfast, and it may not look it, but Klayya is one of the best places in the city to try Emirati food. The breakfast dishes all come with karak tea – a sweet, creamy and spiced hot drink – and traditional bread. The chebab (a warm saffron-infused pancake) is perhaps the pick of the bunch. Also try the ryood yerena, which is baked eggs in a tin pot, on a bed of sticky, sweet dates. Another good choice is the ryoog Bur Dubai, a shakshuka-type dish with eggs baked in a sweet tomato sauce with a hint of chilli.
