Kwik bites at this Indian Bur Dubai restaurant

Time Out Says

We know this Indian restaurant chain won’t win any spelling contests, but the creatively crafted name does an excellent job in luring pedants and fans of fine sub-continental food through its Bank Street doors.

While the former group might take the management to task with a copy of the Oxford English Dictionary, the latter should study the menu and get stuck into the excellent machli amritsari, which offers choice cubes of boneless fish that have been marinated in north Indian spices and deep-fried. If you’ve brushed up on your Indian dishes of distinction, you’ll order a tarka daal, which yields gloriously smoky lentils that have been cooked overnight; and then you’ll opt for the hyderabadi gosht, which is teeming with succulent lamb pieces in a dark and spicy sauce. The kasmiri pulao offers long-grain rice cooked slowly with a mix of fragrant herbs, and while the keema naan might be slightly on the crispy side, its grains of minced lamb are full of rich meaty flavour.

However good the food might be, the interior of this tiny restaurant has certainly seen better days, and the waiters’ uniforms (which look like hand-me-downs from a low-budget airline) have hardly been stitched on Savile Row. But the waiters themselves are helpful and efficient, and, who knows, perfectly willing to engage in an in-depth linguistics debate between courses – as long as you’re kwick about it.
