Time Out Says
Disappointingly the food, almost without exception, tastes as if it began life among the ‘gourmet’ range in a supermarket freezer. A couple of the more palatable starter dishes are the butterfly prawns, although they tend to be tiny and fairly tasteless. The ‘perfect harmony’ salad is an enjoyable, if slightly bland, mixture of artichoke, palm hearts and asparagus on a bed of iceberg lettuce.
Try the slab of sirloin steak, which despite being quite fatty is full of flavour and perfectly cooked. Despite our complaints the meat dishes in general are generous, moist and wonderfully seasoned. It’s the sloppy accompaniments that tend to be the let down with lumpy couscous and cold mash potato putting you off your food.
Skip deserts, which can be worse than awful – the chocolate cake is dry, and tastes like it’s bordering on stale. The foamy tasteless cheesecake, is an insult, with a cheap teeth-coatingly sickly strawberry syrup. The prices aren’t justified for a meal that could be so easily recreated at home possibly with better results. Despite the friendly staff and prompt service the only consistent draw at La Movieda are the good fresh fruit juices.
