Time Out Says
Laffah Restaurant is around 3km from the Dubai-Sharjah border and, just like us, it’s had quite a journey. The small Syrian fast food café in Al Qasba, Sharjah, has bloomed into four outlets and it shows no signs of slowing down. The Dubai branch is committed to the values that made the original such as success: quality sourced chicken, cooked to mouth-watering perfection, served at rock bottom prices. And phwoar, it’s a formula we’re fully on board with.
On our visit it’s heaving. Old, young, big and small all jostling for an order of the shawarma, which starts at just Dhs7. We do the maths about how many we could order instead of our next pricey brunch while walking to a leather booth. (A bath full, we calculate.)
Our order arrives, the thinly sliced chicken is seasoned in a beautiful rub – spicy yet sweet, peppery yet fragrant.
It’s rolled between thin bread and slathered in sauce before being toasted between a hot press for a crisp finish. We inhale it, and another. Before ordering a lamb version and a portion of crinkle cut fries that come sprinkled in the special shawarma spices.
Forget SZR, we’d cross deserts for this food.
