From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Wholesome sandwiches, scrummy soups and delicious coffees and pastries make this shopping centre patisserie a cut above other coffee shops.

There’s nothing fancy about Le Pain Quotidien, in fact they seem to pride themselves on stripping everything – the decor and the food – back to the bare essentials. But they certainly do the basics very well.

Thanks to delicious nutty breads and a few curious tweaks, boring old egg sarnies never tasted so good. The same goes for the soups and the shareable cold-cut platter, where freshness and simplicity shine through.

The secret of the success here is the straightforward pleasure derived from good-quality basic ingredients. This is real food. Try the mammoth chicken Caesar sandwich – it’s refreshing to get a generous, garlicky chicken breast instead of the mystery meat served up by rival establishments.

The coffee, served French-style, is delicious and it would be a crime not to use a gargantuan bowl of the frothy stuff to wash down a naughty-but-nice pastry. One gripe; the takeaway prices at the bakery/patisserie section are a little on the steep side, especially if you arrive late in the evening when the goodies are less fresh.
