Time Out Says
The Peruvian restaurant from chef Virgilio Martínez has become a massive hit since with foodies since launching in City Walk in 2017. As the founder of the first Peruvian restaurant to win a Michelin star (with LIMA London), the chef is passionate about food and you can taste that in the dishes.
If you love ceviche you’re in luck, as there’s a range to try, from scallop to catch of the day. We recommend the salmon, which comes with asparagus, beetroot and yellow chilli tiger’s milk, being zingy, fresh and light, while the beef tenderloin anticuchos (grilled on skewers) are rich and meaty.
Try the causa, a dish made with mashed Andean potatoes then topped with a variety of tasty ingredients. Peru has almost 4,000 varieties of potato, apparently, so it would be a shame not to sample any of the root veg.In winter there’s a petite terrace to sit out on in The Square, but inside is actually more charming. The décor inside is also fantastic, designed to reflect Peru – the vibrancy and the colourfulness of the nature and the ingredients in the country.
This is something that’s also seen in the dishes, which are plated beautifully, with swirls of brightly coloured sauces and edible flowers. There’s also a lounge area upstairs with bright murals and Latino mixed drinks.
It may not have the vibrant atmosphere of some places in the city, but the food is a lot to shout about, and that’s why it’s a former winner of our Best Latin American Restaurant Award, and picked up Highly Commended at the 2019 awards.
