Magnolia Bakery

A low-key family-friendly spot that’s not all about desserts

Time Out Says

Dubai Festival City is packed full of choices. Whether you’re after juicy burgers (hello, Hard Rock Cafe), fine dining (à la Pierre Gagnaire), or giant sundaes (Serendipity 3 and Sugar Factory) there’s something for everyone.

And Magnolia Bakery should absolutely be on your list. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s all about the cakes – although they are great – it’s a low-key spot for a meal, too.

This cute New York bakery, which rocketed into the spotlight thanks to Carrie Bradshaw and her friends, is most famous for desserts, but the breakfasts and lunches are excellent.

We visit at breakfast time on a weekend when there’s a buzz about the place.

Feeling hungry, we opt for the Full Pan. Served up in a frying pan (why not?), this is a breakfast that will set you up for the day. We also try the avocado on toast. Served up on a slab of seeded toast, the crushed avocado is robustly seasoned and tasty, while two eggs are perfectly poached.

It would be churlish to leave without at least trying one of the world-famous desserts. Our advice?

Opt for a classic cupcake, you won’t regret it.

The bottom line

Cupcakes, breakfasts, it’s all equally excellent.
