Al Seef’s creekview dining is incomparable, and one of the best spots for it is Mamikonyan’s second floor outdoor area, where you can watch the abras go by, as swift, friendly servers bring your dishes over.

Opting for traditional dishes, we go for the Armenian cold cuts platter and raw kibbeh to start us off, but are told that they aren’t available – with the restaurant keen on eventually removing them from the menu.

Our frustration ends with the espas soup, a traditional boiled  yoghurt dish, with wheat berries and mint. Garnished with edible flowers, it’s perfect for the wintery weather and tastes like nothing we’ve tried before.

For mains, we try the thyme lamb chops first. A tad too oily, they’re juicy and tender nevertheless and come with oven-baked golden potatoes that make a filling side dish.

The chicken kebabs, made with tasty, fresh minced meat mixed with parsley, chilli and garlic, are flavourful, but need something a bit tangy to go along with them. Tabbouleh adds zing, but doesn’t stand out.

Mamikonyan’s wholesome dishes are best eaten during the colder weather, understandable give Yerevan’s climate.

The Armenian restaurant’s experience is enjoyable, with some of the friendliest servers we’ve met at Al Seef, warm Middle Eastern interiors and an ancient feel to its grand terrace.
