Time Out Says

This quirky little Mexican eatery has been popular for years, and when you see the prices you’ll understand why: it takes some beating in terms of value for money. It’s not licensed, but you’ll find some inventive mocktails on the menu and a charming atmosphere, which coupled with the competitive pricing means a busy restaurant floor most nights. There’s a large menu with all the Mexican classics, and the food presentation and service has a homely feel. You can tell this place is independently owned, and it plays to that strength. Order guacamole on the spot to keep your complimentary nachos company; prepared at your table, it is spiced to your specification and makes for a great way to start the meal. In the cooler months, book a table outside and enjoy the flow of traffic and steady bustle of people on Umm Al Sheif Road. It you want wholehearted Mexican food without the fanfare of marble floors, a hotel lobby, butler-style-wait-staff and a strict dress-code, then this is the place for you. Homely, charming, tasty food and excellent bang for your buck – Maria Bonita’s gets our stamp of approval, and has done for years.
