Time Out Says
Or is it the central bar that’s lit up like a Christmas tree in the middle of the restaurant? Or is it the smiling, can-we-do-anything-else-to-help sort of service you can expect from the moment you arrive to the moment? Or, to finish this extended set of rhetoric questions, is it the way this place refuses to take itself too seriously?
Perhaps it’s a combination of the all of the above. “Matto” translates to “crazy” in English, and this cracking hangout really leans into that mantra. Especially on a Monday, where you can get unending pizza with one drink for Dhs85. Arrive before 8.30pm and you’ll get a random appetiser as part of the bar’s rather authentic aperitivo happy hour – Dhs35 for a drink and a nibble.
Definitely get a pizza, these stonebaked gems are a showstopper, and your experience having a fresh burrata alongside ripened cherry tomatoes, basil pesto and olive oil makes this a dish truly worth savouring.
So, too, is the ricotta gnocchi served with a rich beef Bolognese – it’s a real delight.
There’s much to adore here, and it feels weirdly rejuvenating to spend an evening in this charming Italian spot.
