Miss Wàng

Authentic, flavoursome food in urban-cool surroundings

Time Out Says

Hidden away in Majestic Hotel Tower, Miss Wàng is a great spot for some traditional Asian dishes in a laid-back, urban setting.

Once you’ve overcome the challenge of finding it, you’ll be rewarded by the experience – and the food – that awaits. Low lighting and industrial interiors with exposed brickwork and graffitied walls lend a cool vibe.

Service is slick and friendly, and staff don’t miss a beat.

The menu isn’t huge, but that’s not to its detriment. We opt for a few sharing dishes to kick things off. The chicken dumplings are well flavoured, while our Vietnamese spring rolls are cool and refreshing, packed with prawns, glass noodles and mint.

The volcano shrimp remain nicely crisp despite the punchy sauce they’re tossed in, but the star of the show is the Thai flatbread. A layer of crunchy Asian veg is mixed with chunks of chicken and smothered in molten mozzarella, finished off with a drizzle of peanut sauce. The excellent combination of flavours, crispy base and gooey cheese is a winning one. The only let-down is the pad Thai noodles. They’re heavy and greasy and are left virtually untouched. This doesn’t go unnoticed, and we’re sent a complimentary dessert of Vietnamese banana cake to accompany the apple pie wontons we’ve ordered. The latter are an excellent take on a classic, while the banana cake is soft and sweet, crammed with large chunks of the fruit. It’s apparently a Miss Wàng bestseller and we can see why.

With authentic, fresh food and top service, this looks like a spot going places. There’s stage for live music plus a free karaoke room (if you’ve dined), which will be running from July.

Get down to Miss Wàng now. You won’t be disappointed.
