Moe’s on the 5th

Cool, New York-inspired jazz bar and restaurant with some decent bites

Time Out Says

Step into Moe’s on the 5th and you immediately feel transported to a jazz lounge in New York. Both the lounge and restaurant feel small, the former dominated by a large central bar, the latter by a space for a live singer – complete with full band – once a week.

Take a seat in a plush red leather booth and it’s a cosy spot for an evening bite to eat.

The menu features mostly bar bites and the selection is short, but covers the staples, including duck spring rolls, fried baby squid, tuna tartare and short rib sliders to start, a duck dish, fish dish, chicken dish and steak for mains and a grand total of three pizzas to choose from – pepperoni, lamb with spinach and pine nuts, and truffle.

We plump for the truffle pizza, which is disappointing – the shavings of the delicacy not providing even half the fragrant punch you’d expect. The French sea bass with green onion and black garlic, swimming in a rich, buttery sauce fares much better.

Starters are the best – the tuna tartare a sheer, refreshing delight and the duck spring rolls perfectly crisp and stuffed with tender, sweet meat.

Head here for drinks (there’s a two-for-one happy hour daily from 6pm to 8pm) and a few nibbles and you’re sorted.

The bottom line

Cool spot for light bites with drinks.
