Dubai's Ghaf Kitchen joins Eat The World DXB line-up

When we heard that some of the world’s best food trucks would be popping up in our city next month, for the street food bonanza that is Eat The World DXB, the foodie in us couldn’t contain our excitement.

The best of London, Bangkok and beyond will be pulling up to Burj Park on February 25 for three days of serving up awesome bites right alongside each other.

While it was revealed last month that a few Dubai trucks would also be taking part, now the first one from the region has been revealed.

Ghaf Kitchen will be serving up some delightful dishes to some of the 20,000 visitors expected, pulling out all the stops to compete with the global greats.

"We are setting up very much like a restaurant on wheels," Founder David O’Brien told Time Out Dubai. "At Ghaf Kitchen we really focus on the food and the cooking element we can do in and around the iconic H Van as it’s all about the food to us."

What else do you have to look forward to from the team who will be operating in among activities such as a celebrity chef theatre and artisan food market?

Here’s what the menu comprises:
• Posh fish finger sandwich, mushy peas, tartare sauce @ Dhs45
• Whole spit roast lamb, triple cooked chips, chimichuri sauce, mint/red onion and wild parsley salad @ Dhs50
• Quinoa dog, chipotle mayonnaise, coriander salsa @ Dhs35

Street food that sounds right up our street.

With Americana-inspired East London vendor Big Apple Hot Dogs, as well as The Cheese Truck on hand, even Ghaf’s founder is looking forward to checking out some of the other vans to see how his rivals compare.

'I have been following and visiting most of the other food guys for some time. I am particularly looking forward to working with Mark Hix’s team and Kevin Gratan from Hix fish dog," he shared. "As you know our signature dish is the Posh fish finger sandwich, with mushy peas and tartare sauce, although the fish finger sandwich is not exclusive to either of us and has been presented in various guises over the years, we are particularly proud of ours and the freshness and quality of the fish we use.

"Both Mark, Kevin and most of his team were with Caprice Holdings in previous lives as was I and my team, so I will be looking forward to trying their take on their ‘Fish Dog’."

O’Brien, whose business will also be participating at Love Food Festival in Al Ain February 11-13 and Abu Dhabi February 18-20, added that any rivalry is of the friendly kind though.

"We are helping a number of the other guys with sourcing great ingredients and supporting them with our knowhow of the local market, so I am sure there will be a great spirit of togetherness at the various events over the month."
