Celebrity chef Nathan Outlaw is set to take the reins at one of Dubai’s most recognisable and atmospheric restaurants.
Outlaw, who holds two Michelin stars at his self-titled restaurant in Rock, Cornwall, England, will have his name above the door at the Burj Al Arab’s Al Mahara, one of the top seafood restaurants in the city. With seafood being Outlaw’s calling card, it seems like a perfect fit and will become his first venture outside of the UK.
The new-look Al Mahara will open in September and Outlaw is promising to introduce his simple, classic and award-winning cooking style to Dubai, using local, seasonal and responsibly sourced ingredients whenever possible. The restaurant will retain it centrepiece – a floor-to-ceiling aquarium – but the rest of the dining room will have a facelift.
The chef will take inspiration from his award-winning restaurants Restaurant Nathan Outlaw and Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen in Cornwall, and his London restaurant, Outlaw’s, at The Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge (all of which hold Michelin stars), as well as his pub The Mariners.
Outlaw, who was in the city at last weekend’s Taste of Dubai, says: “Working with Burj Al Arab speaks for itself. It’s the most luxurious hotel in the world, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“Dubai has very much claimed its spot on the world food map, and can definitely compete with the highest of culinary standards from around the world. As a chef, it is one of the cities you want to work in. I am so impressed with the quality and service here.”
