We’re bracing ourselves for stampedes, record levels of lip-smacking and sonic boom-worthy high-fiving around Dubai, because McDonald’s milkshakes are coming to the UAE.
We never got to the bottom of why exactly McDonald’s’ world-famous, legendarily thick milkshakes have never continuously featured on the fast food joint’s menu here in the UAE. They were available briefly for a joyous spell last year, but have never been a permanent fixture. McDonald’s vaguely stated the reason for its prolonged absence was either down to low demand or an unreliable supply chain, but didn’t confirm either way.
But now, they’re back, it would seem. McDonald’s has confirmed to Time Out Dubai that the beloved milkshakes will be coming to its UAE restaurants on Saturday August 12. Details of specific flavours are a little vague at the moment, but it has been claimed that a chocolate-Oreo flavour and a classic strawberry flavour will be first on the menu.
To dispel any rumours or urban myths about products, McDonald’s also has this handy Q&A section on its website. Turns out, all ice creams at McDonald’s are lacto-vegetarian, which means suitable for vegetarians, but not vegans.
Here’s the food giant’s rather convoluted explanation for why milkshakes never previously featured in the UAE:
“The decision to keep those products on our menu depends on several considerations including level of demand and the ability of suppliers to consistently deliver the product according to our strict measures.”
But, whatever the reason, they’re back on Saturday August 12, and we can’t wait.
Update - 07/08/2017 13:09 - McDonald's has confirmed the chocolate-Oreo and strawberry flavours will launch on Saturday August 12, costing Dhs11 each, or Dhs5 when upgrading a regular meal deal drink to a shake.
