New Mexican restaurant opening in JLT

El Mostacho is from the team behind Bystro

There’s a hot new Mexican eatery in town, and Time Out Dubai has been for a look behind the scenes ahead of its opening.

El Mostacho will welcome diners from Wednesday (May 16) in Cluster I in JLT, and promises a whole host of authentic dishes and heaps of fun.

The restaurant is part of Bystro Group, the team behind popular eateries Inn The Park and Bystro, the latter of which is a multiple Time Out Dubai Restaurant Award-winner.

And with El Mostacho the team wants to “focus the limelight on Mexico’s more authentic and lesser known culinary superstars”. So we’re expecting much more than an overstuffed burrito or soggy nachos here.

As well as classic dishes there will also be a spread of healthy options, including homemade gluten-free tortillas, salads, soups made from family recipes and much more.

The kitchen will be led by Mexican-born Isaac Mendoza, who promises the “zesty spirit of Mexico” in all his dishes.

There will also be a special weekend menu, with limited edition dishes, which will feature faves such as ceviche.

"Staying true to its roots is our main goal," says Josh Benson, founder of the Bystro Group. "I don’t want El Mostacho to be yet another pit-stop for burritos and nachos drizzled with plastic cheese. We’re committed to serving up an authentic fare and import our chillies from organic farms in Mexico. Just like Bystro and Inn The Park, our eateries are built on a strong cultural foundation. El Mostacho will follow in those footsteps."

It looks super cool, too. The compact space boasts vibrant décor, with trinkets bought at Mexican markets, such as crafts from Guadalajara and Oaxaca.

We'll see you by the hot sauce.
Open daily 11am-10pm. Gold Tower, Cluster I, JLT (04 551 6679).
