Time Out Says
If you’re on the hunt for originality, Outback Steakhouse probably isn’t the restaurant for you. An Australian-themed eatery founded 25 years ago in America, the concept has multiplied at a phenomenal rate, now dutifully recreated more than 1,200 times in 22 countries worldwide. In the UAE, we’ve been gifted with two such venues, one in Festival City and at this better-known Dubai Mall spot. As you’d expect from a mid-range, mall-based eatery, it’s generically decorated with faintly outback-esque touches, and boasts razor sharp service that’s well prepared for the weekend rush. The food, too, is just as you’d expect – big and greasy, layered with calorific sauces and artificial additives. The steaks themselves can’t hold a candle to the pricier venues in this book, but these only make up a small portion of the menu among the uniform selection of burgers, pastas and other grills.
