PAX Ristorante & Lounge
Italian restaurant with good views of Sheikh Zayed Road
Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011Let’s start this review off by saying, the food at Pax is excellent. From the sophisticated goose liver starter, coupled with apple fritters and a meaty monkfish main, to the more traditional lasagna, which is quite possibly one of the best in town - thick, cheesy and deliciously home cooked. The view is also impressive - with floor-to-ceiling windows enabling you to peer 24 floors down to Sheikh Zayed Road. The service, too, is friendly and attentive, if a little nervous. But it’s the setting that lets this place down. It suffers from the feeling of being a sectioned-off part of the hotel lobby. It’s not at lobby-level but there is a central dining area in which regular buffets are held between Pax, Californian Kitchen and Benjarong, meaning the restaurant still has that open, echoey feel, where atmosphere has a habit of escaping, never to be seen again. The light is also too bright, bouncing off the windows, spoiling the view and sapping any hopes of romance. To summarise, Italian restaurants need three key ingredients to be truly successful: good food, knowledgeable service and a romantic atmosphere. Pax has nailed the first ingredient and the second is halfway there, it just needs to work on the latter, and it could go far.
