Time Out Says
This Karama restaurant serves predominantly Punjabi cuisine, and stands out from the rest thanks to its cute and kitsch décor. It’s bright and colourful, with vibrant shutters, vintage Bollywood posters and painted murals on the walls and even a table inside a rickshaw. The place is absolutely spotless, and more upmarket than you might expect to find in this part of town, but prices are still low for what you get. There are plenty of vegetarian options to choose from (the crispy deep fried mushrooms filled with mushroom paste, cheese and white pepper are an unexpected highlight) and we could devour several portions of their paneer appetiser, which is marinated in mint and spinach and grilled over charcoal. Curries are hearty and deeply spiced, and almost all come in at under Dhs50, while sides like paratha and naan cost Dhs5 and under. It’s not the cheapest meal you’ll find in the old end of town, but it’s certainly one of the tastiest.
