Time Out Says
The classic açaí bowl has been done many times in many different ways, but few places do it as well as Projeto Açaí. With locations around the city, our favourite is the Marina branch.
The bowls are inventive (vegan brownies anyone?) as well as classic – you can’t beat a good old granola topping. But we’re here to sample what else is on the menu (spoiler, it’s not just açaí bowls).
Vegans are well catered for with wraps, salads, poke bowls and smoothies. The vegao wrap and vegan power poke bowl catch our eye so we order up, grab a table outside in the sunshine, sit back and relax.
The wrap is modest and comes with a small side salad. Toasted, and filled to the brim with tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, red cabbage, onion and spicy chickpea pureé it’s more than enough for a light lunch.
The poke bowl sounds amazing – with tofu, mango, roast potatoes, rocket and edamame beans – but doesn’t live up to the tasty description. The potatoes are undercooked and the ingredients just don’t seem to go together, and while not terrible, it’s disappointing.
For dessert we can’t resist trying the mini vegan doughnuts and order blueberry, pistachio and chocolate. The stand out by far is the blueberry, it’s moist and full of flavour, however, more of a mini muffin than a doughnut.
It’s not bad, but next time we’ll stick to the açaí we know this place does so well.
