Time Out Says

If you love Anatolian food, chances are you’ll have dined at RÜYA before. The restaurant has made a huge splash since arriving on the Dubai dining scene a couple of years ago, so much so that chef Colin Clague and his team set up a (a not quite so critically warmly received) sister restaurant in London.

RÜYA translates into “dream” in English, and the setting is, indeed, dreamy. A secret garden-style terrace overlooks the yacht bay and sparkling towers. And with looping strands of fairy lights, RÜYA has an elegant feel.

Food is well thought out with varied spices and well-balanced flavours, and dishes are ideal for sharing – adding to the air of grown-up romance.

Start off with lahmacun – a flatbread topped with spicy lamb, vegetables and herbs, it’s delicious. And don’t miss the pastirma, where the cured beef goes perfectly with the sourdough. The börek – feta wrapped in filo – is also deliciously crispy and cheesy.

For mains, a Turkish coffee rub gives the rib-eye a strong, interesting flavour that is utterly delicious and moreish, while a side of zaatar potatoes and grilled garlic bulb add richness. If you love fish, try the the baked seabream with sujuk crust – it’s zingy and fresh.

It may not be flamboyant but with an upbeat vibe and delicious dishes, you can’t beat RÜYA for a low-key romantic night out.
