Time Out Says
This stripped-back, small canteen-style restaurant has no pretentions to fine dining and the menu is similar. It’s concise and contains the staples of Malaysian cusine – nasi goreng, mee goreng, some set meat and rice meals, fish dishes and beef and chicken satay. The latter the restaurant does very well – it has a wonderfully fresh, homemade peanutty-ginger marinade. Sadly the nasi and mee goreng – fried rice and noodle dishes – are let down by too liberal a helping of oil. They’re both stodgy and bland, too. The set meals are a better option, and are what people come here for, in small groups or alone. This feels like a truly local neighbourhood eatery. For that reason service is not so much of an issue. Staff are there to take your order, you’re served and pretty much left to it until you request the bill. It’s budget-friendly, so you’d choose Rasa Sayang if price is more of a concern than food and you’re in the area. However, it’s also not far from the heart of Karama, which is awash with wallet-friendly restaurants that are better in terms of taste.
