Rhong Tiam

Authentic and tasty Thai food and excellent service

Time Out Says

Wasl Vita Mall may not be the most glamourous spot to have a restaurant, but going by Rhong Tiam’s dining room and outside area, it’s a good place to attract people to try Thai food. The room, despite not being that old, is showing signs of wear and tear, which is a little off-putting. However, the brilliant service and good food help overcome that. A few complementary snacks and a drink to start makes us feel welcome and whets our appetites. Prawn cakes come with two sauces – plum and Sriracha – and they’re as good as they come. A papaya salad is excellent and has all the flavour and texture you’d be looking for. Main courses of basil fried rice chicken and red curry are great choices but our pick is the prawn with Thai basil. The plump prawns are stir-fried with aromatic basil, chilli and garlic. If we have one misgiving about the food it’s that the spice levels are reigned in somewhat. However, staff will being extra chilli fi you ask. The vibe is not one for a relaxing meal out, but look past that and it’s a pleasant change from the high-end, hotel Thai restaurants.
