Ribs & Brews
Time Out Says
And quite rightly so, given the venue’s new moniker (it was known, in a previous life, as Cook Hall).
While the name may have changed, there’s still that cool American roadhouse vibe, those leg-tickling cow hide chairs, and the really rather nigglingly absent service. All hallmarks of a venue we have come to really appreciate, but none of which are the real reason we head back.
To that, we owe the top-notch American-style grub.
Portions are sizeable but, bucking the trend, don’t represent quantity over quality – because here, you’ll find both in equal measure. And plenty of familiar flavour if your spirit animal is either barbecue or Buffalo sauce.
If you’re sharing, don’t miss the fantastically crisp truffle, pecorino and ’shroom flatbread. Sound unsettlingly posh? Get it topped with an extra helping of barbecue chicken and that’ll tone things down to a Texas-worthy treat.
What you absolutely won’t want to share is an order from the meaty beef ribs menu – specifically the Carolina-style, smothered in a spicy barbecue sauce.
Sure, use cutlery if you’re more finishing school than Flintstone, but know ribs this good are well worth abandoning airs and graces for.
If you can stand the sluggish service, the rewards at Ribs & Brews are sweet.
