Time Out Says
Riviera Beach Grill opened in the summer, promising a “genuine Mediterranean atmosphere”, and “an eclectic mix of dishes”, so we can’t wait to see if it lives up to its billing.
Décor-wise it’s not an exaggeration. The prettily lit restaurant sits on wooden decking, while white and blue furnishings add to the holiday vibe, as do the views out to sea. We love the beach feel, and settle happily back into our seats to check out the menu.
Sitting opposite Azure Beach Club, Riviera Beach Grill is also set next to the hotel pool, which makes it feel more like a hotel restaurant than a dining destination in its own right.
We order up some prawns pil pil and mussels picante to start with. They’re both tasty – though the burnt garlic in the prawns overpowers the dish. The mussels are excellent, however, huge, and swimming a rich, tomatoey sauce, which we eagerly mop up with fresh bread.
Being a seaside grill, we opt for the snapper fillet and rib-eye. Our fish is meaty yet flaky and pairs well with a side of asparagus. We order the steak medium-rare and its cooked perfectly, tender and nicely charred. It’s on the pricey side though – expect to pay as much here as you might at a top steakhouse.
We round our meal off with a delightfully decadent chocolate mousse (holiday vibes, holiday diet).
Everything is nice enough, but doesn’t wow, which for the price you’d hope it would. There are stronger seafood restaurants in the city, and this will need to up its game to compete.
