Time Out Says
We glance at the menu (on an iPad) and declare it a cheat day. So we start backwards, ordering the Kinder French toast first.
The server arrives with a massive sweet brioche bread treat, topped with melted chocolate, whipped cream, fudge sauce and extra chocolate.
We make the mistake of adding the latter, and it ends up being incredibly heavy, but remains magnificent nevertheless.
You would think we’d rein it in with all the calories after that – but we don’t (or rather can’t) and we go for the ultimate fries along with a carb-loaded crab linguine.
The first bite of those happy, skinny potato chips with garlic, chives, Parmesan, guacamole and sour cream transports us to deep-fried dreams – and the fries are the only thing that’s skinny about this dish.
As for the pasta, which we’re told is a house specialty, this comes with crab, cherry tomatoes and Italian rocket. The aglio olio sauce is delicious, with hints of olive oil making for a balancing, softening base for the sharp sweetness of the crustacean.
The service at Roux could do with a few extra smiles, but the exceptional eats make up for that. It’s a cute café that’s worth a visit, especially for breakfast.
