Royal Orchid

A Marina-based South East Asian-style restaurant with reasonably priced seafood and chill crab

Time Out Says

With its prime location on Marina Walk, it’s a shame that part of this two-level South East Asian restaurant forgoes a waterside location for the stale foyer of a residential tower. If the weather’s nice jump at the chance to sit outside. If you can stomach elevator-style gamelan music that’s played indoors, then this is an affordable place to tuck into South East Asian delights. Though the restaurant bills itself as a Thai pit stop, some of the dishes sound strangely Chinese. The succulent chilli crab is unbelievably affordable and comes with killer claws, although, less pleasantly the crustacean is battered, making it quite difficult to get into the shell. Your irritation will subside when you realise you can soak up the juices with doughy morsels of bread that come with the dish. There is a good selection of starters, such as crunchy chicken spring rolls and dim sum filled with veggies and seafood. Most memorably, though, the service is fast and friendly, so you’ll feel obliged to leave a decent tip.
