Time Out Says
Hidden away upstairs inside Sheikh Zayed Road’s Crowne Plaza Dubai hotel, you wouldn’t find Sakura unless you were looking for it – which is probably in its favour, since the misleadingly dull decor in this Japanese restaurant wouldn’t exactly send window shoppers through the doors in their droves. Nevertheless a bit of a facelift would work wonders for the restaurant’s overall appeal, because the service is friendly and obliging, and the food itself is highly enjoyable. Sashimi and sushi are reliably fresh, while hot dishes, such as stir-fried vegetables with rice, are treated so delicately that they make for a very satisfying meal alone. It’s all there – Sakura just needs to jazz up its retro setting and make the most of its prime location to become something remarkable.
