Time Out Says
If you’re looking for a quality Chinese meal between New and Old Dubai, Shang Palace should be high on your list. It may not have the hip vibe of DIFC counterparts Royal China and Hakkasan, but it’s still a relatively stylish venue, with its dynastic décor and first floor balcony setting, looking down onto the Shangri-La Hotel’s lavish lobby. A vast and easy-to-navigate menu includes broths, traditional bites and plenty of meat, seafood and vegetarian meals. But the prices for some dishes are a bit inflated considering the portions, with appetisers and main courses roughly the same size. A star starter is the crispy king prawns with mango and mayonnaise. They come with a hint of wasabi that works wonderfully with the prawn and fruit juices. The spicy sesame chicken is another generous and tasty choice. Some signature dishes however, such as the barbeque beef ribs with homemade green apple sauce, deserve less recognition than Chinese food classics like the sweet and sour chicken. Opt for the weekend brunch offers to really indulge in what Shang Palace has to offer.
