Time Out Says
A restaurant of this name is setting itself up for grand things, and it isn’t quite able to live up to them. While the food is good, nothing is particularly knock-out in terms of flavour or spice mixes. However, sitting outside on the terrace enjoying the classics of Thai cooking, such as the ped sam rod crispy roasted duck with chilli sauce, pineapple and crispy basil, and the pad Thai noodles, you’d be hard pressed to find fault. Staff offer top-notch service, voluntarily going the extra mile. They are a shining example of how the best in the industry should be – knowledgeable of the menu, being able to suggest alternatives should your palate take a different fancy. For a low-key night out with a group of your best pals, this restaurant has what you're after. There’s even a dancer outside on the terrace who gives a traditional performance. But based solely on the Thai cuisine, Spice Emporium would struggle to topple the very best in the city from their perches. We’d certainly say stop by and give it a go, but there are other Thai restaurants in town that offer the full dining experience.
