Time Out Says

From the moment you walk into Stars ’N’ Bars you know that you’re in for an easy ride – because the easy life is at the centre of everything it does.

So laid-back it’s almost horizontal, this is not the kind of nonchalance that’s try-hard, it’s the floppy-haired surfer dude catching the wave just for the good vibrations.

The décor: surfer’s beach bar-style (of course). Think surfboards and California-themed pictures. Oh, did we mention the VW campervan, too? There are even arcade games, table football and a pour-your-own hops wall.

La Mer’s branch of the famous Monaco celeb haunt, Stars ’N’ Bars is shaping up to be a go-to hangout even before the food arrives. And when it does, it’s a sealed deal.

Mozzarella wedges – that’s right, cheese instead of potato – and the corn are great comfort classics and under Dhs50. The California turkey ham and bacon wrap is just simple food executed brilliantly. But it’s the Black Castle burger (Dhs70) that steals the show: a beef patty steamed for extra juicy flavour and served on a black bun, so you know this dish means business. We love it indoors but can’t wait to grab spot on the breezy terrace come winter and prepare to fold back a cool 180°.

The bottom line

Star by name, star by nature.
