Super Natural Kitchen
Time Out Says
Billed as Dubai’s first and only 100 percent raw, vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free and preservative-free kitchen and restaurant, Super Natural Kitchen sounds like it’s not for everyone – and you’d be right.
It’s part of department store Galeries Lafayette’s dining hall, so tables are shared between different restaurants. You can order at SNK’s counter or (after a lenghty wait) someone will come to your table for your order.
The place is known for its wide range of vegan cheese and we arrive excited to try the famous cheese board. Unfortunately we’re not the only ones after this, and disappointingly the cheese board has sold out.
Undeterred we order the crispy ‘not duck’ style rolls and tom kha soup. Even though we’re reminded this is a raw restaurant so our soup will be cold, it’s still a shock. Temperature aside, the soup is creamy and tasty, with a hint of lemongrass.
The ‘not duck’ rolls are also a little odd. The coconut and courgette wraps overpower the ‘not duck’ (what that actually is we’re still pondering), but the plum sauce helps with the flavour and we lather it on.
The lasagne is nothing like we’ve seen before. Spirals of beetroot and courgette are layered with cheesy white sauce and sun dried tomato sauce. It’s nice enough, but unexpected.
Pad Thai at least looks like the dish we know and love, but is totally devoid of flavour.
If you like raw, vegan food, this will tick your boxes, if you don’t, you should probably swerve this.
