Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011Thai Terrace looks best at night. During the day the exterior looks a little bit weathered and beaten, the paint is peeling slightly and it has suffered from its proximity to the busy Trade Centre Road. Come nightfall, its neon lights glow and there are always customers visible in the windows. The interior too is rather tired: the once bright red and purples are now duller, even the ornate window arches and the fish tank fail to truly liven things up. However, Thai Terrace’s lack of frills is a huge part of its charm, especially when coupled with the friendly yet unassuming service, along with the menu with pictures (the deep fried crab sausage looks particularly interesting).
The food is also cheap, quite cheerful and authentic: the papaya salad appetiser is heartily refreshing, the glass noodle salad generous and seriously spicy, the ‘fat’ noodles with prawns appropriately fat and the Thai red curry homely and just the right side of creamy. This is all best enjoyed when washed down with a couple of pots of jasmine tea, and a few hours of conversation. If you’re on a budget and looking for somewhere relaxed to catch up with friends, there is plenty of room for you on the Thai Terrace.
