The Beach Bar & Grill
Time Out Says
Once in we pick a table at the back overlooking the sea. Like any beach setting it’s easy to like – the views, the breeze, the time to ponder. It’s all shaping up for a very idyllic weekend lunch – and then the food arrives. Sadly, like any mirage, it keeps us searching for something we won’t find.
We see the dishes coming out of the kitchen and our taste buds tingle, until we tuck in and realise it was all just an illusion.
The scallop starter is beautifully presented. However, both the shellfish and smooth-as-caramel celeriac purée are overpowered by the perfume of fresh herbs whacked on top.
Harissa on the crab cakes is non-existent. On the plus side the black cod is perfectly cooked but it’s let down by “charred” baby fennel, which in reality is both raw and burnt. The seafood risotto is ruined by rubbery lobster that’s been overcooked, too. We’re left bitterly
The setting is charming, but dishes are more miss than hit.
The bottom line
A chic setting, but let down by food.
