The Cheesecake Factory - Dubai Mall

The arrival of this US chain in Dubai created quite a storm, but it doesn’t live up to its own hype

Time Out Says

It’s been a while since Dubai experienced such a dizzying frenzy over a new restaurant opening. The venue has become notorious as the workplace of failing actress-turned-waitress Penny from US TV series The Big Bang Theory. Grandiose and golden, it’s an odd space: old fashioned and over the top, designed like an American jazz-age salon, glossed over with a glitzy sheen. The menu is a long, chaotic list of deep-fried, Americanised all and sundry, peppered with ads for other venues – don’t be surprised if even the staff fail to navigate through it properly. The Vietnamese tacos are fairly successful and imaginative, albeit not strictly ‘tacos’, while the insane-sounding concept of a fried ball of macaroni and cheese in a burger is surprisingly good, but most other dishes are largely disappointing. Finally, with 50 varieties on offer, you’ll want to sample some of the famous cheesecakes – most are sickly sweet, so go for ‘Craig’s Crazy Carrot Cake Cheesecake’.
