The Flipside Restobar
Time Out Says
The menu is extensive with dishes from all over the world including Thai, Chinese, Indian and American and best of all, most of their dishes include alternative meats.
It all sounds and looks good (too good to be true?) but when we try to order it gets a bit complicated. The menu caters well for vegetarians but vegans don’t fare as well and staff seem a little confused.
The veg chilli with spaghetti from the Mexican section appears to have been embellished on the menu. The mock mince meat arrives and we can only describe it as chunks of dried jerky. The few and far between kidney beans don’t add anything to the dish either.
We have higher hopes for the burger, a Beyond Meat patty topped with balsamic, brown onion, cheese and tomato all sounds promising. Again we’re disappointed. The burger bun isn’t vegan so we have it in a lettuce wrap, which is fine but not as we’d expect. The cheese isn’t vegan either so watch out.
The intention and idea here is fantastic, but work needs to be done on the execution. With some tweaks to the menu – and a greater understanding from staff, The Flipside would be a worthwhile spot for plant-based diners but currently there are better places to try.
