Time Out Says

The buzz around Bluewaters Dubai is rapidly picking up pace, and with good reason, thanks to some exciting restaurants popping up on the island.

From celebrity chefs (greetings, Gordon Ramsay) to dim sum eateries (Zhen Wei) and burger joints (Ketch Up), there’s a now well-rounded selection of places to grab a bite to eat.

One hotly-anticipated spot was The London Project. Opening at the beginning of 2019, this cool restaurant promised stunning views and a cool vibe. And it brought it.

Set at the foot of the massive ferris wheel that is Ain Dubai, the upper terrace of The London Project looks out towards JBR and the Marina, and you’ll get some pretty special views – especially at sunset and by night.

There’s even a juniper bar “inspired by a wild, enchanted English country garden”. We wouldn’t go as far to say that, but the concoctions are pretty inventive – with ingredients such as cherry tomatoes and basil leaves, or raspberry pearls.

The interiors are fantastic, with swathes of on-trend green foliage, vibrant colours and a trendy vibe.

The restaurant promises a mish-mash of global cultures, celebrating London’s affinity with art, music and fashion. For those who have lived in the British capital we’re not sure it’s very traditional, however, it’s all very cool and the menu is interesting.

There’s a range of flatbreads – from the standard mozzarella and tomato to a smoked salmon and cream cheese version. The latter actually really works, despite some initial doubts, with the smoky fish pairing well with the blistered crust. They’re large, too, so are good to share.

The bubbly-battered fish and chips is an interesting take on the British favourite – the hops whisked away for a more “Dubai” version of the dish. And it’s a good move, it’s light and tasty. It’s also, again, a large portion, so you’ll feel justified spending your hard earned (it’s not cheap here).

The chips are chunky, proper chips, too, that are way lighter than they look.

There’s also a range of sushi, salads and steaks to try, the latter of which are excellent – being tender and tasty – but very pricey for the location.

Is it “London”? Not really. Is it as cool as the hype says? Yes. Should you go? Most definitely.
