The MAINE Street Eatery
Time Out Says
Billed as a more casual version of the restaurant it seems to be just as popular as the original, and is jam-packed on our visit. Described by the team as a “cousin rather than a twin or exact copy”, the similarities are obvious, which is a good thing.
Indoors the décor is simple and cool – all dark woods and a brasserie-style set up – and the atmosphere is buzzing, with a warm, friendly vibe.
Outside there’s also a terrace with tables near the hotel pool.
Much of the menu will be familiar to regulars of the original Maine – with all the favourites present and correct (hello, chargrilled octopus, old friend).
There’s a smaller range of oysters, but they’re still on the menu, and you can get them for Dhs10 a pop every day between 6pm and 8pm.
The aforementioned chargrilled octopus – long one of our go-to dishes – is excellent as ever, the tender cephalopod paired expertly with the tangy, buttery puttanesca sauce.
Crispy fish tacos are worthy of a mention too, being super-tasty and having an ideal fish to tortilla ratio. Don’t miss the spicy shrimp linguine – a deliciously unctuous pasta dish with a fiery kick and hefty crustaceans lurking in the tangy tomato sauce.
If you’re not a fish fan, there are other options including burgers, pizzas and pasta dishes, too. The chicken schnitzel, albeit not the most exciting of dishes, is tasty enough – and a whopper of a portion, scattered with rocket leaves and tomatoes, which is good to share.
There’s a smattering of deals throughout the week, too, which are worth checking out including a daily happy hour serving up two for one mixed drinks from 5pm until 8pm. The popular Wednesday ladies’ night has also transposed to this location, offering unlimited grape from 8pm until midnight every week.
Cousin, sibling or distant relative, however it wants to be defined – we’re happy this new branch has maintained the standards of The MAINE family.
