The Meat Co
Laid-back diner offering a reasonable range of cuts at affordable prices, but service could do with a boost
Time Out Says
We like The Meat Co for its relaxed vibe, reasonable prices and modern interiors: the Madinat branch has had a makeover in the past year, reinforcing its reputation as a chilled hangout rather than stuffy five-star destination. There are cuts on the menu catering to all price points, with the lowliest New Zealand rump weighing in at a shade over Dhs100. Those with deeper pockets can splash out on the ‘connoisseur’s choice’ Aussie wagyu fillet, which approaches the Dhs500 mark, or opt for the mid-priced beef ribs, butcher’s skewers or sizeable burgers. Cooking can be a little erratic (even medium-rare steaks can veer more towards well done), but sides are generous and there are some unusual accompanying sauces – the yoghurt and tahini remoulade is worth a try, although you’ll have to pay extra for it. Unfortunately, our biggest niggle is the service. It’s friendly enough, yet even when the restaurant is only half full, staff sometimes have to be prompted to clear plates or take orders. At least the picturesque views from the outdoor terrace (at either venue) should appease.
