The Palermo Restaurant
European elegance at the Dubai Polo Club
Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2010Located within the confines of the Dubai Polo Club, Palermo is quite a way out of town, located near to Motor City and Arabian Ranches. One expensive taxi ride, or a long drive later, is it worth the effort? The decor has a high-end gentleman’s club feel to it, with high ceilings, chandeliers, a fireplace (not in use) and outdoor terrace. It may feel like you are sat in some stately home, but the staff are friendly and chatty, which makes the vibe a little more relaxed – the restaurant is usually pretty empty, though, so it could be that they are glad of the company. Yet given the setting and the quality of food on offer, prices are very reasonable. There is one page in the menu given over to a range of Argentinean steaks, with prices for a tenderloin starting at just Dhs95, including three side orders and sauce – surely unheard of at restaurants in most five-star hotels.
The Argentinean theme continues elsewhere, with empanadas (pastry casing with different fillings) and picada (platter of cold cuts, cheese and chips) among the starters. You can vary your choice slightly with one of the chef’s specials, featuring a number of fish dishes like the salmon with mango chutney and vegetables – a large slab of tender fish with the mango providing a sweet glaze. It may be off the beaten track here, but it’s very quiet and the food is good, but not too expensive.
