The Red Lion
Time Out Says
This pub likes to keep it simple (not that that’s a bad thing sometimes). This fact is reflected in the food, which is just the type of fare you’d find in any British chain: burgers, curries, fish and chips and fry-ups. But while the menu might not be incredibly imaginative, the proof of the pudding (or, in our case, the shepherd’s pie) remains in the eating. And we are pleasantly surprised by what our friendly waiter brings us – a hearty serving of pie that doesn’t skimp on the lamb and certainly warms your cockles.
Meanwhile, there’s nothing child-sized about the baby chicken, a tasty offering that comes with a very generous helping of mash and sautéed veg. If you can polish off your main and still have room for a sweet (we’re not judging, honest) you really can’t go wrong with some good, old apple pie. You might need
some help up the stairs after such a feast, though.
The bottom line
Go for the nostalgia, leave with a very happy tummy.
