The Ship’s Wheel
Time Out Says
But what about the grub? The menu is the same as served in The Clubhouse next door, so if you’d rather eat al fresco with views over to the Marina then you can. And although the pub is great for a catch-up over a pint or a game of pool or darts, if you’re looking for a smoke-free venue, you’ll want to head out.
The thick layer of smoke within the pub is clearly visible as you approach, which is enough to put off plenty of pubgoers looking to dine.
The food, however, is decent. All the usual suspects are on the menu, from fish and chips to pies and burgers. A veggie jalfrezi is excellent – a plentiful variety of fresh veg is simmered in a fragrant sauce with a kick. It’s accompanied by a mountain of rice, raita and garlic naan, and coming in at just Dhs67.
It’s a massive helping (enough for tomorrow’s lunch) and therefore great value.
Meanwhile a double-carb-combo of lasagne and garlic bread will remind Brits of the local back home. It’s tasty, decent quality and again, huge.
If you’re looking for a laid-back British pub you’ll be happy here, but eat the tasty grub outside.
