The Underground Pub
Time Out Says
In 2018, it was named Dubai’s Best Sports Bar at the Time Out Dubai Music & Nightlife Awards for such a reason. But in a never-more-competitive market, is it still top of the pile? In short, no. Its prices, for one, are steep – with a pint costing upwards of Dhs35 even during the venue’s daily happy hour.
Head down before or after the deal, and prepare for your bill to inflate faster than the chest of the winning team’s manager.
Onwards to the food, and options are packed onto a solid one-pager of British pub grub, ranging from pies to fish and chips, bangers and mash to a butter chicken curry. Unexpectedly – though possibly due to their generous size – it’s the sizzling fajitas that fly out of the kitchen on any given night.
A ravenous diner – or peckish two – will do just as well with the colossal toad in the hole. Featuring three classic bangers topped with lashings of onion gravy and a mountain of mash, all nestled within a Yorkshire pudding of cargo ship proportions, it’s a behemoth belly buster.
In contrast to the drinks the food here is basic but undoubtedly good value. For sport paired with a pint and a pie (or, indeed, Tex-Mex), you can do far worse in Dubai.
