Tirquaz Bistro and Garden Lounge
Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009Tirquaz is sat in the Majestic Hotel’s health centre, and it seems a suitable home with an interior so polished-looking it borders on clinical and a menu offering ‘healthy international cuisine’. International it is, with dishes encompassing a range of pastas, curries, steaks and fish.
The ‘healthy’ part, however, takes a battering, as the restaurant looks to please everyone: burgers and barbecue chicken wings lay in wait to trip up the weak-willed. The ‘healthy’ part doesn’t come into play with the portion sizes, either. The mezze starter is big enough for two, and tasty.
Although the puzzling lack of pita means you are forced to scoop up the houmous et al with the complimentary bread rolls. The mains are run-of-the-mill affairs and puds, heavy but tasty.
The problem with Tirquaz is clear: quality has lost the battle with quantity. Consequently, in a city brimming with top-notch niche eateries, Tirquaz just can’t cut it. And it seems the staff agree: on Time Out’s visit, when the waiter asked if we enjoyed our meals, we lied and said yes. He responded, incredulously, ‘Really?’ Which just about sums it up.
